Dr. Richard Wedge
Dr. Richard Wedge was appointed by the Health PEI Board as Interim Chief Executive Officer effective October 23, 2012. He has been Executive Director of Medical Affairs and Provincial Medical Director since 2004.
Dr. Wedge obtained his medical degree from Dalhousie University in 1986. He practiced as a Family Physician at the Summerside Medical Center from 1987 - 1996. He served as Medical Advisor to the Worker’s Compensation Board during 1995 - 1998 and was appointed National Medical Consultant for Veterans Affairs Canada in 1998. In 2001, Dr. Wedge was named as Medical Director of East Prince Health and named as Medical Director, Queens Health Region in 2002.
Dr. Wedge has extensive professional organizational involvement with groups including the Medical Society of Prince Edward Island where he served as Chair of both the Education and Finance Committees; Treasurer, Board of Directors and President. He served as member on the Board of Directors of the Canadian Medical Association and the PEI Reproductive Care Inc. He currently sits on the Board of Directors of the Canadian Agency for Drugs and Technologies in Health.
Dr. Wedge resides in Summerside with his wife Maureen and two children, Ben and Alix.
