National Medical Laboratory Week
Earlier this week a notice was distributed from the PEI Society of Medical Technologists announcing that the week of April 22-28 is National Medical Laboratory Week. I would like to add my recognition, and that of my colleagues on our senior management team, for the important role that medical laboratory professionals play in our Island health care system.
In Prince Edward Island we have approximately 105 medical laboratory technologists and five medical laboratory assistants working across the public health system. They are skilled experts who process an average of 3000 patient samples per day, which includes analysis of culture swabs, tissue samples, blood and urine.
Their work is vital, as laboratory test results are used by physicians and other health care professionals in the diagnosis, treatment and management of illness and disease.
Please join me in thanking medical laboratory professionals for their dedication to patients and the essential role they play in providing safe, high-quality care to Islanders.
