Children in Care Program
Who is eligible?
- Persons in temporary or permanent custody of the Director of Child Welfare, and;
- Persons must be eligible for PEI Medicare.
What are the benefits of the program?
- Eligible persons are entitled to any prescription drug approved for sale in Canada (regardless of our formulary) while they are in the custody of the Director of Child Welfare;
- Eligible persons are entitled to any approved non-prescription or provincial formuarly product;
- Special authorization requests may be submitted for consideration of other non-prescription products not on the approved list;
- All drug costs are covered by the program.
How do I apply?
- No application process.
How does the program work?
- Once a child is brought under the care of the Director of Child Welfare, they are automatically covered;
- Coverage is not retroactive and eligibility ends the day of departure from PEI to take up residency elsewhere.
