Children in Care Program

Who is eligible?

  1. Persons in temporary or permanent custody of the Director of Child Welfare, and;
  2. Persons must be eligible for PEI Medicare.


What are the benefits of the program?

  1. Eligible persons are entitled to any prescription drug approved for sale in Canada (regardless of our formulary) while they are in the custody of the Director of Child Welfare;
  2. Eligible persons are entitled to any approved non-prescription or provincial formuarly product;
  3. Special authorization requests may be submitted for consideration of other non-prescription products not on the approved list;
  4. All drug costs are covered by the program.


How do I apply?

  1. No application process.


How does the program work?

  1. Once a child is brought under the care of the Director of Child Welfare, they are automatically covered;
  2. Coverage is not retroactive and eligibility ends the day of departure from PEI to take up residency elsewhere.
