Quit Smoking Drug Program

If you would like to quit smoking, you may be eligible for coverage of approved prescription and non-prescription medications through the Quit Smoking Drug Program.

Am I eligible?
You are eligible for the program if you:

  • have a PEI Health Card; and
  • are taking part in the Smoking Cessation Program through Addiction Services

How do I apply?
You can be referred through the Smoking Cessation Program or you can call the Smokers’ Helpline at 1-877-513-5333 (toll-free).

How much of the medication cost will be covered?
The program will pay the first $75 (per year) towards the cost of approved medications. You will be responsible for any additional costs of the medications.

Where can I get my medication?
Once you are registered with the program, you can pick up your medication at any community retail pharmacy located in Prince Edward Island.

Will I get a refund for medication I already purchased?
Coverage is not retroactive, you will not be reimbursed for medications you have already purchased.

What if I move away from PEI?
Your eligibility for this program will end the day you leave PEI to take up residency elsewhere.
