Immunization Program

The Immunization Program provides children with immunizations (vaccines) for various communicable diseases.

Is my child eligible?
Your child is eligible for the program if they:

  • have a PEI Health Card;
  • are under the age of 18; and
  • are at risk of exposure to a communicable disease.

How much of the immunization cost will be covered?
All costs of approved immunizations are covered by the program. The flu shot is not covered by this program. Learn more about where to get your flu shot and how much it costs.

What if the immunizations needed are not listed in the PEI Pharmacare Formulary?
Vaccines for travel purposes are not covered under this program. If you are travelling out-of-country, speak to your physician regarding the required vaccinations.

How can I get my child immunized?
There is no application process. Contact your local Public Health Nursing office to make an appointment for your child to receive their immunizations.

Why should my child be immunized?
Immunizations help protect against diseases caused by certain viruses and bacteria. Immunizations are recommended for anyone under the age of 18.

When should my child be immunized?
The Chief Public Health office sets the immunization schedule and provides accurate information about the vaccines currently being offered.
