About Prince County Hospital
Prince County Hospital is the second largest acute care hospital in the province. The 110-bed facility provides emergency, inpatient and ambulatory care services.

What if I need emergency care?
If you or someone in your care has an urgent medical condition or is experiencing a health crisis emergency services are available 24 hours a day at Prince County Hospital or call 9-1-1

When can I visit a patient?
Visitors play an important supportive role in meeting a patient’s needs during their care in hospital.  General visiting hours and guidelines help balance a patient’s need for visitors and the health care team’s responsibility to provide timely treatments and procedures. At certain times, special temporary restrictions may be added to ensure the hospital is a safe environment for patients, visitors and the health care team.

General visiting hours:  11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Rest period (No visiting): 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Maternal child care (obstetrics and pediatrics): 
  • Rest period:  1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.
  • Fathers/partners, siblings and grandparents are welcome anytime. Only two visitors at a time.
  • Extended family and friends:  6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
  • Designated care givers are permitted as required

Labour and delivery:
  • Two support people. No children under the age of 12 are permitted.

Special care nursery:
  • Only two immediate family members at a time (parents, grandparents and siblings of newborn).

Intensive Care and Immediate Care units:
  • Immediate family and significant others are allowed at anytime. Access is dependent on the patient’s condition.
  • Ring bell outside ICU/IMCU door for approval.

Inpatient Mental Health:
  • Visiting hours:  Monday to Friday, 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.; and
    Saturday and Sunday: 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
  • Ring intercom outside unit.

Emergency:
  • No more than two immediate family members at a time. Visits may be limited.
  • Ring intercom outside Emergency Department for approval.

Ambulatory Care:
  • Monday to Friday:  8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
  • Due to limited space and seating, only one support person per patient. Only children being treated are permitted in Ambulatory Care.

After-hours access: For security and patient privacy, all doors are locked after 8:00 p.m.


Can I access hemodialysis services at Prince County Hospital?
